Some of our larger pieces are made in stages. This large pot was created from two thrown pieces. A small paper fire is made in each half after it is thrown to dry them out more quickly and firm up the rims. Next, a coil of clay is attached to the bottom rim, and the top half is carefully aligned. After the two pieces are joined, another stage of throwing is done on the wheel to smooth out the seam. The piece is then trimmed, bisqued, and glazed as usual.
